Wag Hill Lodge is visually stimulating and has been kept to unobtrusive and uncluttered designs. The use of raw materials and natural textures keep the rhythms of the natural environment flowing through the structures. Each building at the Lodge has been named after indigenous birds, of which you should see many. They are Cliff Chat, Fish Eagle View, Malachite, Hammerkop and Little Egret. Fish Eagle View is generously proportioned accommodation which is suitable for a family with small children because there is room for extra beds to be provided. A large verandah gives spectacular lake views. The other secluded bungalows – Malachite, Little Egret, Hammerkop and Cliff Chat all provide double beds with en suite facilities and stunning views over Lake Victoria. The lounge and indoor dinning area is a large and impressive building, which we refer to as "Cliff Chat". It is constructed of wood and local granite and is adorned with African art and artifacts and also has one double bungalow located at the rear of the building.
A fully fitted kitchen is situated towards the rear. This is also available for use by self catering guests. Outside you will find the large swimming pool, BBQ and bar area, where most of the socialising occurs. We offer two forms of accommodation - All Inclusive or Self Catering. Your stay at Wag Hill will be based on an overnight trip that begins from the Mwanza Yacht Club or Mwanza Airport, only 10 kms from the city centre. For All Inclusive guests transfers are included by car from the Mwanza Airport, or any other location in Mwanza. The birdlife and granite rock formations, or kopjies, provide spectacular views on the journey to the Lodge and it is not uncommon to see crocodiles, otters and monitor lizards if transferring by boat. Otherwise, on the 40 minute trip by 4X4 vehicle you will see some of the bustling Mwanza City and some very rural Africa. On arrival at Wag Hill Lodge you will be greeted by the Manager and shown to your accommodation. The lodge and the 17 hectares around it are now yours for the duration of your stay. The days are open to activities of your choice, fishing, walking, bird watching, kayaking / canoeing or simply relaxing around the pool or at the bar. As an All Inclusive guest you will be served home cooked meals, with a few of our African specialities included. Tea, coffee and water will always be available as is the well stocked open bar. As dusk falls, gather around the evening fire with a sundowner and experience the natural wonders as the African night lights up. Dine by candlelight indoors in our lounge in Cliff Chat, or by the pool with an open fire. After dinner, when you are ready, you will be escorted to your bungalow where you will enjoy a peaceful sleep and wake to the famous sounds of our resident fish eagles.
Next day, be part of the early morning Tilapia fishing before sitting down to enjoy a hearty breakfast, then either prepare yourself for another great day at the lodge or transfer back to Mwanza. The Wag Hill experience is designed with you, the guest, in mind, and we can organise an itinerary to suit your needs to enable your stay to be as relaxing and interesting as possible.
If you need assistance with your onward safari then we can help. With our contacts here in Mwanza we can arrange flights, car hire or ground safaris into the Serengeti and onwards. Just ask. |
