Activities

FISHING:

Lake Victoria hosts some of the biggest Nile Perch and Tilapia in the world. The largest Nile Perch caught at the Lodge is 86 kg and Tilapia 4.2 kg.

Fishing from the front jetty for Tilapia using live bait is excellent as is casting with lures for Nile Perch.

We have a 'tinny' which can be used to fish around the Lodge, but if you require a day trip on the Lake, then this will have to be planned in advance to ensure the boat and Captain are available. This is at an additional cost.

Fishing equipment is supplied and for the novice some expert advice.

BIRDWATCHING:

Wag Hill Lodge is a paradise for bird lovers as the protected indigenous flora attracts many species of birds. There is an abundance of Egrets, Pied Kingfishers, Grey Headed Kingfishers, Malachite Kingfishers, Ibises, Cormorants, Storks, Bul Buls, Bee Eaters, Cliff Chats, Sunbirds, Wagtails, Shrikes, Flycatchers and the majestic Fish Eagle.

Trail

NATURE WALKS:

Visitors have the freedom to explore Wag Hill Lodge to observe the unique diversity of the indigenous fauna and flora, or can choose to take a guided walk with the resident guide whose knowledge of the area is vast. For those with the energy, a steep walk to the summit of the lodge grounds offers a spectacular vantage point to view the lake and surrounding area.

Swimming Pool

SWIMMING POOL & ENTERTAINING AREA:

A peaceful setting to cool down and relax in comfortable chairs around the pool, reading a good book, or watching various birds including kingfishers, flycatchers and Wagtails dipping into the pool and preening themselves in the surrounding trees.

BAR:

Have a cold drink with friends around the bar, or sit back and enjoy your surroundings.

KAYAKING & CANOEING:

We have a double kayak and a double canoe at the Lodge. Both have paddles and safety jackets.

We acquired the kayak after Mr Johan Loots of www.paddleyak.net sponsored it for the Lake Tanganyika adventure which was completed by friends of ours in 2008 - Louis & Morne and subsequently paddled across Lake Victoria from Mwanza to Jinja by Brent & Nick.
